Wiping Out Debt:
How does it work?
When we begin to consider wiping out debt we think of ways and means of improving our state of affairs. Total United Kingdom individual liability as at year end 2008 was a staggering 1,457bn. That has dropped to 3.6 per cent over the last four quarters which translates to an increase of about 50bn. Total borrowing in the month of December last year grew by 2.2bn; secured lending expanded by 1.9bn in the same month; unsecured personal lending expanded by 0.3 billion in that month. The average U.K. household debt comes in at around sixty thousand pounds (including secured loans). The average amount of money owed by every U.K. adult is around 30,400 (including secured lending). Average unsettled secured loan for the 11.7 million families who currently have mortgages now stands in the region of 104,223.
Other rather depressing figures: 252m is paid just in interest in the U.K. daily. 124 homes are repossessed every day. 1,490 people lose their livelihood daily, meanwhile one person is made insolvent or bankrupt every five minutes.
But it hasn't only been ordinary people who have suffered. Business insolvencies has increased dramatically in recent times and this trend has been sustained in the recent years culminating in the current downturn. In the fourth quarter of 2008 3000 incorporated businesses went into liquidation , a sixty two percent increase on Q4 in the previous year. British companies have seldom faced more challenging times. When looked at in terms of wiping out debt this really poses a challenging test to a lot of people.
