Some more fairly worrying figures: 252m is paid just in interest in Britain every day. 124 properties are repossessed daily; nearly 1,500 people are thrown out of work every day, and meanwhile someone is declared insolvent every 5 minutes.

But it hasn't only been everyday people like you and me who have suffered. Business failure has increased vastly over the last few years and the trend has been especially sustained and prevalent in the years approaching the recession. In the last quarter of 2008 3000 companies went into creditors voluntary liquidation (CVL) and this was a sixty two % rise on Q4 in 2007. U.K. businesses have rarely faced a struggle as great as this. When considered in terms of wiping debt service this situation really poses a challenging trial to everyone.
